Much-loved Get Growing, Victoria! is around the corner! BGCA hosting the plant distribution event on Thursday, May 16 between 4 – 6 pm. We will have soil-building materials at the Cecelia Ravine Garden as well. Please don’t forget your shovel and containers to collect some compost, wood chips and leaf mulch too! The Society for Kids at Tennis (KATS, www.kidsattennis.ca) is once again providing their free tennis lessons and equipment to families experiencing financial barriers. This program uses the “progressive tennis” approach recommended by Tennis Canada, it uses smaller racquets, smaller courts, lower nets and low compression balls. The Family Self Sufficiency program (FSS) is an innovative and comprehensive three-year financial literacy and asset building program for low income families. Priority is given to those receiving housing subsidies in the Capital Region.

Tillicum Daycare is located at 3155 Albina Street in one of the learning studios on Tillicum Elementary School property. Tillicum Daycare is licensed for 16 spaces and will serve children ages 30 months to school age.

A big THANK YOU to all the families who attended our Santa’s Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, Dec 2. There was over 200 people in attendance! We love helping people kick start their Christmas season with this event. To the students at St. Michaels University School who came out to volunteer, thank you for making this event a success. To our sponsors, CFAX Santa’s Anonymous and Country Grocer, this event could not have happened without your generous donations … THANK YOU! And thank you to Victoria Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation Local 730 for cooking up delicious pancakes!
Families even got to meet jolly ol Saint Nick! Children got to tell Santa their Christmas wish list and get their photo taken with the big fella himself! Elves where also on hand to offer presents to all the children. Then once bellies where full and photos where taken, families got to spend time working on Christmas crafts and getting their face painted.

We’re incredibly grateful to announce that this year, we’ve distributed a total of 99 Christmas Hampers! Thanks to the unwavering support of our sponsors, donors, and volunteers, we’ve provided assistance to 98 families, 166 children, 1 independent youth, and 1 senior during this holiday season. None of this would have been possible without the incredible support from our community. A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone involved!
We also extend special appreciation to all those who contributed to the success of ‘Cram the Cruiser’ this year. Our gratitude goes out to Colquitz Middle School students, their families, school staff, and the dedicated members of Saanich Police (Shelley Eddy, Alex Omoding, Berle Zwaan, Mike Hales, Jody Pavesic, Andrea Tooms, and Steve Robinson). This will be an opportunity for discussion on the direction of our neighbourhood transit plan.
BC Transit is revisiting some of the transit service concepts originally developed through the 2020 Burnside Tillicum Local Area Plan. Receiving ongoing input on our service from our customers and community partners is an important part of our processes, and BC Transit is seeking feedback on proposed changes to routing and service levels within the Gorge area.
On October 16th meeting Senior Transit Planner Work Lead – Levi Megenbir, Manager of Planning – Carl Purvis and Manager of Scheduling – Brian Harvey will be joining at the Community Meeting.
