Would you like to contribute to the community and learn new skills? Volunteering with BGCA allows you to become a part of something important.

Current opportunities:

Thrift Store

BGCA’s new neighbourhood thrift store! Volunteers are needed to help receive, sort, and price donations. From washing and steaming to creating beautiful display windows, volunteers will be performing a wide variety of duties; working the cash register, stocking store products and handling guest questions or concerns. An interest or experience in thrift stores would compliment our store beautifully as we are open to all ideas and creativity, however no experience necessary. If you are interested in volunteering, please email Megan & Rachelle at boutique@burnsidegorge.ca.

Community Volunteer Income Tax Program

BGCA is currently seeking volunteers to participate in the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP). If you have a basic understanding of income tax and a desire to help others you can work with the BGCA to complete returns for individuals who have modest income and a simple tax situation.

On-site volunteer training is provided by CRA representatives as well as additional online tutorials and webinars. Tax preparation consultations are one-on-one and office space is allocated for all tax sessions. If you are interested in becoming a CVITP volunteer please contact Travis at BGCA, 250-388-5251.

Reception

Reception volunteers help tend to the ongoing needs of the Burnside Gorge Community Centre’s front desk. This is the first point of contact for visitors to the Centre. Tasks include answering and redirecting calls on a multi-line phone, greeting visitors and maintaining a warm and welcoming lobby. The time commitment is 2-4 hours on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.  For more information, please fill out the volunteer application below or call us at 250-388-5251.

Board of Directors

The BGCA Board provides strategic oversight to the activities and operations of the Burnside Gorge Community Centre, a busy, successful community organization with more than 20 years delivering services and creating opportunities for neighbours and families to thrive. Additionally, board members lead community-focused committees such as safety and land use.

Members of the Board live, work, or own property or businesses in the Burnside Gorge neighbourhood and are deeply committed to creating a healthy, vibrant, enjoyable and diverse community. Becoming a Board member can help you build your skills, share your talents, enhance your community connections and meet some great people.

We value all skill sets and our organization particularly welcomes experience in the areas of private business/entrepreneurship, financial services, law, and community development. Some previous exposure to non-profit governance and boards is an asset but not essential.

The time commitment is approximately 5-15 hours per month, including one in-person Board meeting. To learn more, contact Suzanne Cole, Executive Director at 250-388-5251 or suzanne@burnsidegorge.ca. We’d love to talk to you about volunteering!
